History

In 1923 Lancaster First Assembly saw it's beginnings as an independent church called the Full Gospel Assembly.  In 1928 land was purchased at the corner of 11th Street (now Milling) and Date and the new building was completed in 1930.  This building at Milling and Date still stands today behind the present Halley-Olsen Funeral Chapel.  After several pastors and several name changes, we became known at First Pentecostal Church and in 1937 church members voted to affiliate the church with the General Council of the Assemblies of God.  On December 19, 1955 the name of our church was officially changed from First Pentecostal Church of Lancaster to First Assembly of God of Lancaster.

In 1955 the first five acres at our present location were purchased.  The new Sanctuary was completed in 1956.  This Sancutary served our congregation well for many years and was lovingly called the "Blue Church, " and is still used today as our Fellowship Hall.  In 1973 construction began on our current Sanctuary, which was completed and dedicated on April 7, 1974.  In 1978 an additional five acres were purchased for additional parking and to develop at a later time a park facility.  In 1983 construction began on our two-story Christian Education building.  At that time our parking lots were enlarged, grounds were improved, and our park facility was completed.  1989 brought the completion of our office and nursery complex and the refurbishing of our Sanctuary.

The years since 1998 have been years of great growth in the Antelope Valley.  Birthed of a desire to continue to influence this Valley for Jesus, additional land (just over an acre) was purchased in 2001.  This land would become the Champion Center, which was completed in June 2005.  The Champion Center is being used by God in ways that we never imagined.  God has truly blessed us.  The latest additon to our campus has been the purchase of an additional five acres directly behind our present campus.  Plans are currently underway for a Senior Housing facility.

Since 1923 this church has been under the leadership of many great men and women of God.  These men and women have trusted God and continue to trust God to lead them and this congregation through name changes, pastoral changes, building changes, and the ups and downs of life in the desert of the Antelope Valley.  We believe that God isn't finished with us yet and look foward to the next chapter in the history of First Assembly of God of Lancaster.
